Studies on Postnatal Development of Testis of Guinea Pig (Cavia porcellus)

The histology and histochemistry of the testis guinea pig various postnatal age groups was conducted. A total 24 pigs four different ages with six male animals each were collected from Department Laboratory Animal Medicine, Madhavaram Milk Colony, Chennai as per Ethical committee approval. After collection, euthanized CPCSEA norms dissected out cut into small pieces, fixed processed for paraffin embedding. Sections 4–5 µm thickness used routine special histological histochemical staining techniques. Testes wereencapsulated by tunica vaginalis albuginea. Septa capsule divided testicular parenchyma lobules. Each lobule consisted seminiferous tubules which spermatogenic cells in stratified layers sertoli cells. Pre-weaning weaning group showed wide lumen only type 1 2 spermatogonia Young adult narrow spermatogonia, primary spermatocytes stages differentiation, secondary spermatocytes, spermatids (early late) Sertoli large oval shaped lightly stained irregular nucleus. Interstitial tissue contained leydig all ages.Leydig appeared varied shape. In studied, PAS activity noticed basement membrane. micrometrical parameters increased advanced both right left testis.
